ArchaeoTourism2012 (AT2012) was founded in 2012 with the main objective to organize conferences and workshops on themes related to archaeology and tourism. The first AT2012 activity was a conference in Thun where for the first time in Switzerland archaeologists and tourism professionals came together to discuss the opportunities and challenges in their cooperation.
One of the outcomes of the first conference was that there is a need for a platform tha can stimulate cooperation between the archaeologists and tourism specialists. The participants of the conference expressed the desire to see this platform embedded in an existing institution. Taking note that at the moment there is no other organisation in Switzerland that has the possibilities to take on this platform function, ArchaeoTourism2012 is ready and willing to satisfy this need.
